Frequently Asked Questions

Our practice concentrates primarily on women’s health and wellness. We treat infertility, PMS, menstrual pain, polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, and menopause. We are known throughout the Bay Area for our advanced expertise in enhancing fertility, and work collaboratively with Western medical doctors to achieve the best success rates for our patients.

Additionally, we treat both men and women for hormonal disorders, gut health, autoimmune diseases, weight loss, allergies, and musculoskeletal pain. We also offer stress reduction, nutrition, and lifestyle counseling. Once the chief complaint has been effectively resolved, we work with patients on an ongoing basis to support long-term health and well-being.

In our practice we offer acupuncture, functional medicine, and nutrition – which includes vitamins, healthy eating, and herbal medicine. We utilize a wide variety of laboratory diagnostics to thoroughly assess patients. Functional medicine is the term to describe the comprehensive, integrated approach we take with patients, utilizing both eastern and western medicine to offer the best of both worlds.

We practice a combination of Japanese and Chinese acupuncture, using very fine needles.  Our approach incorporates the idea that less is better, which means fewer needles overall.

We have been serving the Bay Area since 1995, or for more than for 25 years, and have helped thousands of people resolve health conditions and enhance their fertility.

Each client comes with their own health challenges.  Success relates to you as an individual. Once we meet with you, we can provide an individualized assessment about your expected success rates.

With over 25 years of experience, The Oldershaw Clinic is a leading acupuncture fertility practice in the Bay Area. We are expert at working with patients at all stages in their fertility journey. Our comprehensive approach has been the key to successful family building for our patients.

Herbs are an optional part of every treatment plan. They enhance the effectiveness of other treatments and many patients find them helpful.  Others prefer to avoid herbs.  If you have questions or concerns about taking herbs, please let us know when you come in for your initial consultation.  We strive to supply you with the information you need to make a choice about what will work best for you.

You can begin treatment at any time.  Of course, we recommend the sooner the better.  At the very least come in for an initial consult as soon as you are ready to take a more integrated approach to your care.  We can develop a treatment plan for you, sometimes with a start date in the future.  If you have a fertility cycle scheduled in the near future, please let us know so we can schedule your first visit accordingly, and provide you with the optimal lead time to prepare for success.

Each person’s situation is unique, so the frequency of your visits will depend on your individual needs and goals for care. Following your initial consultation and exam, we will develop a customized treatment plan and make recommendations for your care.
